I don't really see an advantage to the smaller formats here, and I'm not just picking on M4/3. The lens feels very solid in hands and it has a far better feel to it than the Nikon 50mm f/1.4G, which feels and handles plasticky in. As you can see from the examples above, all lenses are able to deliver a smooth and silky bokeh and excellent sharpness already from open aperture. The nicer 20/1.4 is larger (tho still a nice sweet spot, don't get me wrong). The Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM is built very differently compared to previous generation Sigma lenses it has a very nice all-metal barrel instead of a plastic barrel like on the older Sigma 50mm f/1.4. While being over a stop slower by equivalence. The PL25/1.4, a lens that I think actually hits a pretty nice sweet spot for the format, is about the same size and a little heavier than my FF 45/1.8. A 25/0.7 for M4/3 would be just as huge tho, heck the 25/1.2 Pro is not that far off (even tho it's much lighter). On something like a 90-150mm I'd agree, I've yet to find something as neat as my Oly 75/1.8 for another format (or as small and as close focusing as the 42.5/1.7, as compact as either 35-100, etc.). My point is that if you're going to deal with bulk and weight it should be for something exotic, not a 50mm/1.4. The autofocus response isnt as fast as you get with the Sigma 50mm F1.4 Arts high linear actuator (HLA) motor, but doesnt lag in the same way as Sonys disappointing FE 50mm F1.8 (249.99). people paid through the roof for oem and today its not needed with art lenses. so sigma forced them all to up their game. their first lens 35mm 1.4 art from 2012 set a new bar the big companies didnt give users. im curious if sigma will be delivering lenses for Z mount. significantly better then the original 35 art. heavy & huge but certainly one of the top 5 sharpest lenses commerically produced, shot wide open. once u use sigma art lenses, u realize your other lenses werent as good as u might have thought. I love my sigma 40 art 85 art & 105 art for stills.
